When should I enroll in Medicare?

Your Initial Enrollment Period generally begins three months before the month you turn 65 and ends three months after your birthday month.

Do I have to take Medicare at 65?
Not necessarily. If you or your spouse are still working and you have qualifying employer group coverage, special enrollment rules may apply. Always check to make sure you have creditable coverage if you delay to avoid lifetime penalties!

What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement?
They are two different ways of getting your Medicare coverage. Medicare Advantage plans are private Medicare plans; Medicare Supplement policies work alongside Original Medicare.

Do I need Part D?
If you have Original Medicare and want prescription drug coverage, you generally get it through a Part D plan. Many Medicare Advantage plans include prescription coverage. If you delay, make sure you have creditable coverage, you could have lifetime penalties!

Can I change my Medicare plan every year?
There are specific enrollment periods when you can make changes. The Annual Enrollment Period is October 15–December 7.
